Is the Movie Call Santa app any good?
If you’ve seen friends sharing movies of their kids talking on the phone to Santa, you may be wondering what all the fuss is about.
It’s a fresh app that enables your child to receive an “interactive movie call” from the man in crimson himself.
We determined to download it to see if it’s any good.
What do you have to do?
Find Movie Call Santa on the appstore or Google play store and download it.
Then you put in the date and time you’d like a movie call and wait for the phone to ring. You can set it to happen instantly.
A photo of Santa comes on your screen and you hit the green button to reply.
Then Santa shows up with a “ho, ho, ho” and asks the child their name. A puny box shows up at the bottom right of the screen displaying a movie of the child’s reaction in real time.
Santa asks if they’ve been insane or nice, followed by what they’d like for Christmas.

Is it any good?
Well, it’s free and very effortless to use.
The fact he can call at a time that suits you works well too.
Santa has an American accent so it’s not entirely authentic to Lapland.
And the movie is on a loop, so he says the same thing every time, regardless of what the child answers.
This isn’t ideal if they say they’ve been insane as he replies with “fantastic!”
It does seem to wait for an reaction tho’ which makes it feel realistic.
The movie recording is protected by a pre-set passcode so parents can observe it again to find out which presents their children would like for Christmas.
The idea is that kids can have the talk with Santa on their own albeit it’s debatable as to whether you should permit that.
The thickest downside is if they want to do it again (which they obviously will) as some of the cannier kids might twig that Santa is telling exactly the same thing, and that could indeed spoil the magic of Christmas.
